John Ewing Having developed his passion for plants early in life, John began growing orchids at the age of 9 with a Cattleya orchid. Since then, John further expanded his love for plants by obtaining his Bachelor’s Degree in Biology specializing in botany and plant physiology with advanced training in graduate school. After graduation, John started and successfully operated John Ewing Orchids, Incorporated, from 1969 to 1998, a commercial orchid nursery producing new and exciting colors and patterns never seen in orchids before. These were sold world-wide to an eager market of plant enthusiasts. Plants produced by John’s nursery became known for their vigorous growth producing long-lasting flower sprays which would flower year after year. During the same 29 years of operating the nursery, John also owned and operated a plant tissue culture laboratory that produced the many new and exciting orchid hybrids that his nursery sold. John has been a renowned guest speaker throughout the entire United States, giving lectures on botany, orchid culture and breeding. John has completed the training program and is now a certified Master Gardener. With such enormous love for his work, John has also taught orchid culture and botany at five community colleges and one university over a period of twenty years so that he could share his passion and knowledge with other people that share his love for plants. |
